8 shops we don’t have in Malta but SHOULD
Why oh why?!

Sarah Micallef

For fashion fans, it’s become standard to seek out those brands we love but don’t have back home whenever we’re away on holiday. I distinctly remember a Facebook group petitioning to Bring Primark to Malta several years ago, which attracted thousands of members. But alas, despite sources close to major local importers revealing that multiple attempts have been made to bring Primark to Malta over the years, the island remains Primark-less. This got me thinking – what are some of the major shops we don’t have in Malta, but SHOULD?

1. Primark

Love it or hate it, it’s indisputable. If Primark were ever to open its doors in Malta, the bargain-loving Maltese would flock to it like moths to a flame! Whatever stopped our local importers from bringing this fast fashion giant to our shores… it certainly wasn’t for fear of it not doing well!

2. H&M

Another high-street favourite we love to check out on our travels, H&M would be an absolute hit in Malta! The Swedish retail company across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, so why not fashion-hungry Malta?

3. John Lewis

Everyone’s heard of this high-end department store chain thanks to its totes emotional Christmas adverts, and we love to check it out when we’re travelling around the UK. We can’t help but think it’s fabulous selection of homeware, furniture and fashion would do well in Malta too.

4. Victoria’s Secret

The secret’s out, and we can’t get enough. I’ve known a few fabulous ladies who are guilty of waiting for trips to countries with Victoria’s Secret stores to replenish their underwear drawers, and trust me, once you’ve felt the luxe fabrics, you’ll be guilty of it too!

5. C&A

Another one for the bargain hunters, C&A is another fast-fashion store with retail outlets in many European countries… just not Malta. Come on fashion gods, don’t we deserve a bargain too?

6. Louis Vuitton

From the cheap and cheerful to the luxe and high-end, Malta remains depressingly bereft of shops stocking this coveted French fashion house. While we do have several incredible high-end options, LV lovers are forced to do their shopping abroad.

7. American Eagle Outfitters

The US lifestyle brand loved by many is another one we’d love to have on the islands! Which trendy local shopper wouldn’t rock their All-American jeans and t-shirt look if they had the chance?

8. Anthropologie

This one is a personal favourite which would probably inflict more than a little damage to my bank account if it ever arrived on our little island. The American clothing and homeware retailer currently operates over 200 stores worldwide… so maybe there’s a chance?
