Accurate AF.
As a small island, we’re constantly finding things to relate to, and when it comes to GIFs, some of them just have an extra meaning for us locals. Here are a few all-too-familiar situations that best describe our isle.
1. Maltese bus sitch
If you’re a local, you know this all too well. If you’re a visitor coming to our islands, get ready for a sardine situation on Maltese buses that will have you fighting for the last seat. *Inner salvagga emerges*
2. Pastizzi (ovja)
'Keep calm and eat pastizzi' is basically our life motto on this island. Pro tip: don’t ever get between a hangry person and their pastizz. You’re risking a colourful Maltese phrase or a bloody nose. It can go either way.
3. Family dinners
Family dinners are a big thing among Maltese families. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary or a regular night, anything is an excuse to gather the gang and indulge in our favourite foods! #AmIRight
4. Cisk
The Maltese drink is probably one of the most popular beers on the island, specifically the original lager. Locals and visitors alike love sipping on a pint while chatting away - a perfect summer's night!
5. Inti Djamant
We all love a reference to the popular Maltese song Inti Djamant, that describes Malta’s sister isle of Gozo as a diamond in the Med.
6. Crane
A little jab at Malta’s construction boom is always opportune. People have gone so far as to say that the crane is the new national bird! Oops...
7. Traffic
Oh boy, the traffic. Certain hours of the day are just mad, but if you’re lucky you’ll find the perfect no-traffic window and just whizz through to your destination. If not, you’ll be stuck in queues of traffic which will definitely bring honking, swearing, huffing and puffing to Maltese roads.
8. Scorching heat
Especially in the summer months, Malta becomes quite the scorcher thanks to the sweltering heat that consumes our islands. And it’s a feeling that will divide a nation each year: half loving the hot summer weather, while the other half craves the colder months.
BONUS: Home
At the end of the day, it’s home to thousands of people! And no matter how much we complain about our rock, we love living on this stunner.
