6 best pubs in Malta for a good old fashioned pub meal
Pub grub is always best with a cold beer.

Pub grub… ahh, there’s nothing quite like a chicken and mushroom pie served with silky smooth mashed potatoes and gravy! And when it's washed down with a perfectly poured pint of bitter while the rain pours down in the background and the Premier League plays on the projector ahead... Bliss. Here are the top spots to get a good old fashioned pub meal in Malta.

The Dubliner

Found on the St Julian’s promenade, a stone’s throw away form the iconic Love Monument, The Dubliner serves up some pretty decent dishes, with a mashed potato that will shame any other spud you’ve ever tasted. The hearty pub food here is presented by a cheery team of barmen who keep you entertained during half-time.

The Londoner British Pub

Head south to Smart City where an unparalleled view and a relatively new restaurant sports some top-notch food. The Londoner offers both pub grub and other classics such as chicken in a basket and some super Beef Wellington and a choice of homemade pies. British food at its finest.

The Scotsman

Back to the centre - Paceville - for The Scotsman, the pub with tartan seating, splashes of blackcurrant in your Guinness (even though that’s Irish) and probably the best fish and chips on the island. Also hot on their menu: a Sunday Dinner with all the trimmings.

Hugo’s Pub

Newer to the pub scene but not the restaurant concept, Hugo’s Pub is big on beer. Draught or bottled, stout or bitter, IPA or lager, place your order at the bar and grab a menu as you sit in one of the spacious booths. Try anything on the menu - it’s all great! Promise.

The Red Lion

Scooch up to Qawa, you’ll be in the area for a while. The Red Lion is a football fan club that boasts quite the menu. Get yourself a stellar chicken curry or give the mixed grill a try. Hopefully the footy will be on while you’re here. The vibe in the pub is pretty wild.

Victoria Pub

Bugibba's main square is thriving in the evenings and makes for the perfect spot to continue the pub crawl with a few beers at the Victoria. Keep those drinks coming to get yourselves hungry for a pub staple! If you’re the kind of bloke to wake up at the pub the next morning, not to worry - their English breakfast is just what the doctor ordered.

The trick here is to pace yourself. Don’t fill up on beer, save some room for the comforting food that these British-style pubs offer and dig in to some real good nosh.
