5 steakhouses in Malta every meat lover must try
Malta isn’t just good for seafood… this little island also boasts some serious steakhouses to consider.

1. The Chophouse, Sliema

If you take your steakhouses seriously, as one should, The Chophouse should definitely be on your hit list. It boats the island’s largest charcoal grill, and it’s always chock-full of large tables of business-type looking men, which let's face it - is a good sign at a steakhouse. Selected cuts of Aberdeen Angus and Scottona beef from Italy are dry aged in-house, while their large glass fronted ‘cave’ stocks a selection of well over 200 wines.

2. Chukkas at Malta Polo Club, Marsa

This is more of a local favourite rather than a restaurant frequented by tourists due to its inland location in Marsa. Located across the road from Malta’s only golf course and overlooking a horse race track, the rustic steakhouse provides first-class Argentinean steaks cooked the authentic way on a log grill. Your nostrils can catch the drift of the seared meat mixed with the smoke of the barbecue before you even set foot in the restaurant.

3. Buffalo Bills, Portomaso Marina, St Julian's

This steakhouse is so much fun, because you get to pretend like you’re in the wild west while dining there, amidst the saloon-like interior and Western era memorabilia adorning the walls. Hell, the servers probably wouldn’t even mind if you called them yellah bellied. The fixed-price menu offers a great selection of meats in various cuts, and includes a lovely welcoming bruschetta or garlic bread followed by fresh soup, and unlimited salad bar visits.

4. Wigi’s Kitchen, St Julian's

While this is not a steakhouse as such, but if you ask a lot of locals who reside in the northeastern side of the island where to find the best steak, their reply is going to be Wigi’s Kitchen in the heart of Balluta Bay. The small, family-run restaurant offers a progressive interpretation of traditional Mediterranean fare, without following food trends. There are no tricks here; just good ingredients cooked honestly.

5. Lore & Fitch, St Julian's

This restaurant's story begins with two brothers from a small Sicilian village who grew into two hard-working young men with an insatiable passion for creating great food. After opening two highly successful eateries in Malta, the Lorefice brothers launched the boutique steak experience, Lore & Fitch. The restaurant offers fantastic meats and an excellent choice of wines, but its dazzling location overlooking Spinola Bay makes it a truly memorable dining experience.
