Love trees? Enjoy the nature! These places to picnic with trees (and sea views) will make you forget Malta's more developed areas.

Blue

While some of Malta's towns may seem overdeveloped and overpopulated, there are still a number of wooded areas with ample trees to enjoy and shelter under - here's where you can enjoy a picnic under the trees in Malta.

L-Ahrax, Mellieha

L-Ahrax is a local favourite, and you will find many picnickers and campers here. It is easy to discover why. The trees here are set along a cliff overlooking Mellieha Bay. The village, with its pretty church, lies perched on a hill across the water. The sunsets are beautiful. Clearings between the trees and several pathways also make this an ideal spot for gatherings in nature of all kinds.

Il-Mizieb, St Paul’s Bay

Il-Mizieb is a long stretch of woodland lying between Xemxija and Mellieha. You're in for a time in greater solitude here. The woods have a sense of wilderness about them, but for a single pathway. The views from the edges, however, are stunning and worth veering off the path. From the far western side, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset over Golden Bay.

Il-Buskett, l/o Rabat

Il-Buskett, in the limits of Rabat, is ideal for those seeking a little extra comfort. Near the Buskett Roadhouse, you can find picnic benches ready to lay your goodies on. Buskett Gardens cover a large area of land, and you can also find wilder areas to set down your picnic rug. Some of the main areas can get busy, but you can always wander further up the sides of the valley into the trees.

Wied Babu, Zurrieq

This is technically private property, but the owners don't seem to mind sharing this incredibly beautiful spot with the public. Nonetheless, you need to jump a boundary wall along the promenade to get in. It is well worth it though and don't worry, you will find picnickers, walkers and rock climbers enjoying the same space. Wherever you settle down, do take a walk to the mouth of the valley to enjoy its magnificence.

Il-Fortizza tas-Silg, Delimara

In the far south of Malta, tas-Silg Fort, near the Island Sanctuary, offers a few spots for a nice picnic. Some of them afford amazing views over the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Walk towards Xrobb l-Ghagin and St Peter's Pool for something to do - it's a gentle walk with great returns.
