1. Karly May
Karly May was the first Maltese transgender model to walk the catwalk at Malta Fashion Week in 2018. Following that, she went a step further and, shortly afterward, launched her Karly May Facebook page, using her position and experience to campaign for more openness and acceptance, inspiring others to be themselves.

2. Philippa and Bettina Cassar
The two sisters - otherwise known as musical duo The New Victorians - are an inspiration when it comes to following their hearts. They write their own songs and even create their own theatre productions. Their theatrical piece ‘MARA’ will be performed in London in mid-February, and its success abroad looks extremely promising.

3. Maria Gauci
Maria Gauci is an inspiring example of not letting disabilities stop you. Maria, in her twenties, has Down Syndrome. Tet, this does not keep her back from chasing her dream to be a dancer. She recently took part in a dance video titled Meet Me, a project by Artivisti. “My message to everyone is that if you want to do something, don’t give up. Keep working towards your dreams until you achieve your goals,” Maria told guidememalta last January.
4. Eve Borg Bonello
Eve is only 15 years old but is already involved in the political world voicing her progressive views, often speaking about issues that other, more mature, politicians wouldn’t have addressed. It is not common for individuals to be aspiring politicians from such a young age, and we all know we could do with a few more female leaders. Hopefully, Eve’s dedication and energy will inspire other people to follow in her footsteps.
5. Camilla Appelgren
Camilla has spent years at the forefront of Malta’s environmental activism, and, despite being Swedish, has a loyal love and dedication to improving the Maltese environment. She is the founder of Malta Clean Up, which has organised tens of clean ups around the island over the years. She also recently announced her candidature to run as an MEP in the forthcoming elections.
