Local environmental NGO Zibel is on a mission to save not only our environment, but any creature that might be in danger too!  

Zibel has been protecting the island’s wildlife for quite some time now, with the eNGO’s latest endeavour taking place in Cirkewwa, where its volunteers found a 150-metre ghost net. 

The recovered net brought with it a few sea creatures, most of which were unfortunately dead.  

Ghost nets are fishing nets that have been abandoned, lost or even discarded in the sea. They cause great danger to marine life and the ecosystems that inhabit the area. 

"Another ghost net removed from the Cirkewwa area. The net was caught on the bottom of the reef, as well as being entangled with older nets that have been there for some time due to the growth we found on them," Żibel said on social media.

14 dead fish were found caught in the net. Fortunately, the crew was also able to save one lucky lobster and a few crabs.
