An exhibition celebrating Ġużeppi Briffa will take place at the Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo museum
An art exhibition celebrating the great Ġużeppi Briffa will take place at the Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo museum this summer.
One of the most important Maltese church artists of the 20th century, Ġużeppi Briffa’s work can be found in many churches across Malta and Gozo.
The exhibition, titled Reluctant Modernism: The Art of Ġużeppi Briffa, will be inaugurated on Sunday 21st June 2026 and will remain open until 8th September 2026.

It will bring together 110 of the late artist’s works, presenting his talent across the board – including his work for churches, his draughtsmanship, his painterly sensibility, and his engagement with popular culture.
Curated by Christian Attard, the exhibition suggests that Ġużeppi Briffa’s work exists at the intersection of a cultural demand for clarity and a growing impulse to challenge the status quo and conventional visual norms.
The exhibition can be viewed during Il-Ħaġar Museum’s opening hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday, including public holidays. Admission to Ilthe museum is free.
