1. Enjoy the waves
The best way to see Malta is from the sea, and what better way than during an adrenaline-packed water sport activity? Water sports are practiced at most public and private beaches, and there’s all sorts to choose from, including snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing and jet skiing. Alternatively, take to the waves on the vessel of your choice – whether a self-drive speedboat or something more luxurious. How about chartering a yacht with a local company like Azure Ultra? It’s guaranteed to be one of the chicest way to enjoy the waters around the Maltese Islands.
2. Attend a festa
Village feasts are the perfect representation of Maltese spirit – loud, vibrant events that celebrate the passion of each community. These feasts take place throughout the year but are especially prevalent in the summer, when multiple feasts take place every weekend. This is a religious event, so festivities focus around the church – but you can also expect band marches, fireworks and lots of delicious festa food!
3. Watch the sun set on the beach
There really is no spot more beautiful than a Maltese beach at sunset – it’s the perfect place to while away a few hours with a picnic and a bottle of wine. One of the best beaches for this is Golden Bay, which promises gorgeous views of the sun setting over the cliffs below. Naturally, sunset makes way for a star-filled night sky, which is also beautiful.
4. Enjoy a unique team building experience
If you’re a local or expat working on the islands, why not have a little fun with your colleagues this summer and organise a team building event? 6. Go over land
Abseiling and rock climbing are very popular in Malta, and the terrain is ideal for both. Aside from the buzz of the activity itself, you’ll be able to see a totally different side to the island and its environment. It’s recommended to book a tour or join a club in both instances, as there are important safety elements to bear in mind!
7. Attend a music festival
The Maltese absolutely love music and will jump at any opportunity for a party. As a result, lots of music events take place throughout the summer, with highlights like Malta Music Week (a week-long series of events at a variety of venues) and the subsequent Isle of MTV. Other music festivals to look out for here.
8. Hike around Comino, and then jump in
The gorgeous, almost-uninhabited island of Comino (which is the smallest of the main Maltese islands) is most well-known for its beautiful Blue Lagoon. It tends to get very busy during the summer months, but it’s still worth making the trip here if you enjoy hiking. The island is largely untouched, and a morning hike will give you the chance to explore this unchartered terrain.
9. Segway away
If you like being on two wheels, then segwaying may be for you. Tours are organised to various parts of the country for both individual and group travellers, and they're a great way to speedily get around without missing all the good bits! Gozo Segway Tours offer some great tours on the sister isle, which work perfectly for the sleepy way of life in Gozo.
