Wowsers! 10 of the biggest stars who have graced us at Isle of MTV over the years
Who would have thought that Malta could become the go-to destination for party seekers hunting down the next Isle of MTV? The Maltese public did, that’s for sure! With teens queueing and camping out hours before the shows were planned to start, the early years of Isle of MTV saw hype, excitement and pure anticipation weeks before the acts were announced.
And boy were there some amazing acts! Here are a few of the top dogs that hit the stage set up at The Granaries in Floriana, especially for the performance.
Jessie J
The insanely talented Jessie J, graced the fossos with her stellar performance back in 2013. She smashed it out, belting out huge tunes like Do it Like a Dude, Price Tag and other awesome hits!
Black Eyed Peas
MASSIVE! This one was epic! One of the funkiest performances ever, the BEP hit the stage with beeps a poppin’ and special effects a blazin’. 2009 saw legendary songs such as Boom Boom Pow that really got the crowd wild.
Snoop Dogg
After making his fans wait for approximately an hour (felt like a year), Snoop dominated the stage with his insane rhymes, killer stage presence and undoubtable talent. He smashed it out of the park and really revved the fans up!
Lady Gaga
Gaga’s first visit was in 2008; and, at first, the audience just stared at her blankly… she then played Just Dance and it clicked but not quite enough! 2009 saw a swarm of monsters rush to the front of the stage for the headline act Lady Gaga - oh we know who you are now girl, we know.
Maroon 5
When This Love was a hit back in 2007, Maroon 5 were truly kings of the charts. These were legends fronted by a handsome stud with a guitar whose voice was pure angelic. Every true fan dreamt of Adam Levine, singing She will be Loved directly to them.
Jess Glynne
Another solo act who brought the house down, Jess Glynne, with her phenomenal vocal abilities and dream like looks, really left her mark on the Maltese public. Songs like I’ll be There fixed in locals’ minds for years to come…thanks Jess!
Rudimental
2013 saw Rudimental take to the stage with their crowd pleasing Feel the Love that connected with the audience and got them cheering for more! Their success on the island is nothing compared to what they’ve achieved in the UK and beyond!
DNCE
Jonas Brothers fans were living for DNCE, with Joe Jonas as the front man and lead singer to their famous song Cake by the Ocean. This was kind of a buzz builder, a total pre-teen obsession and a good tune to enjoy at a live gig!
Steve Aoki
Bring the beat back with Steve Aoki, his legendary tunes were soaring through the crowd as their sick moves that matched up to his sick, sick beats! The DJ legend can spin for days and keep his fans wrapped around his little finger with every bass drop!
Enrique Inglesias
Who could forget about Enrique? Brought here three times in total, the first was back in 2007, followed by 2008 for his immediate return and, after a 6 year gap, he returned with his signature move, leading a fan girl on stage and planting a big fat kiss on her. Wonder how they felt about that!
The Isle of MTV has become one of Malta’s greatest festivals, the most anticipated music gig on the island that gives locals a taste of music from a whole new angle. This year’s line up will be great so be sure to grab your tickets as soon as you can. Look out for Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix - two confirmed guests at this year’s event!
