The people behind this project dedicated two years to carefully designing and assembling the nativity!
A new Maltese record has been revealed at Hilltop Restaurant in Mellieħa, and it’s turning heads for all the right reasons.
The country’s largest nativity scene made entirely from seashells is now officially on display, stretching an impressive 3.32 metres in length, with a depth of 68 centimetres and a height of one metre. The elaborate creation includes 200 shepherd figures and an astonishing 1,461 seashells.
The record-breaking project is the work of restaurant owner Brian Vella and renowned craftsman Anthony Cutajar, better known as Ninu Spejku. The duo dedicated nearly two years to carefully designing and assembling the nativity, paying close attention to every detail.
What makes the display even more special is the story behind the materials. The seashells used in the nativity weren’t sourced from afar - they were collected from shells left behind by diners at the restaurant, giving new life to what would otherwise have been discarded. A festive example of creativity meeting sustainability.
Visitors are welcome to view the nativity scene at Hilltop Restaurant throughout the season. Those who wish can also make a voluntary donation to Caritas, adding a charitable touch to the festive experience.
Striking in size, rich in detail, and officially record-breaking!
