What's on this week: 8 - 11 October
A view of autumn?

Deep flavours:

Monday, 8 October from 8pm: The Funky Jam - Music Playground Open Jam Session – The Funky Monkey, Gzira

What

Every Monday night, Music Playground, in conjunction with Funky Monkey in Gzira, is giving new musicians, non-resident players and enthusiastic amateurs the opportunity to strum their stuff and test the waters. It might not all be perfect – but that’s the joy of it. And, who knows who or what might be discovered? Contact the organisers through Facebook (follow the link here) to book your spot.

Tuesday, 9 October at 2pm: Cocktails and Chocolate Pairing - Malta Chocolate Factory, Bugibba; Thursday, 11 October at 2.30pm: Wine and Chocolate Pairing - Malta Chocolate Factory, Bugibba

What

Wine and cocktails early afternoon? Bring it on! The Malta Chocolate Factory in Bugibba is offering you the chance to not only have a drink or two (finishing your weekend late or starting your week early – depending on how you look at it) but to also accompany your tipple with some of that dark stuff. Tomorrow’s event will include cocktails made with chocolate, while Thursday’s will see wine and chocolate pairings you’ll love trying out at home!

Keep your eyes open:

All week: Rima: to be [defined] - Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta; Thursday, 11 October at 7.30pm: Cold War - Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta; Thursday, 11 October from 8pm – 11pm: El Auge del Humano - a film by Eduardo Williams - Valletta Contemporary

What

Cold War / Spazju Kreattiv

This week promises some sights – and sounds – to remember with Rima: to be [defined] exhibition, focusing on migrant stories and images, taking place at Spazju Kreattiv over the coming days. Same place, on Thursday, stay on to watch Cold War, a stunningly evocative tale of love and conflict, borders and friendships, in the years following the Second World War (tickets here). This is a cinematic experience you will not easily forget. For something less mainstream, Valletta Contemporary, in conjunction with Kinemastik (organisers of the short film festival every July) are screening El Auge del Humano (The Human Surge), a film by Eduardo Williams, who has had much of his work shown at Kinemastik’s flagship event in summer.

Drape yourself in art deco:

Thursday, 11 October from 6.30pm – 7.30pm: From Downton to Gatsby- Jewellery & Fashion from 1890 to 1929 – Salini Resort, Salini

What

Ever watched Downton Abbey and thought: “I’ll have a bit of that!”? And, no, we don’t mean Matthew Crawley (throwback alert). The costume jewellery which has featured in the show will get pride of place this Thursday at Salini resort when jeweller Andrew Prince, who has actually created pieces for the show, as well as for others such as The Young Victoria, will explain the social, cultural and political significance of the great jewellery makers and couturiers of the past. Send an email to [email protected] to reserve your seat or for more information.
