Sing your heart out:

Wednesday, 6th June from 7pm: Anastacia Concert – MFCC, Ta’ Qali.

What

Anastacia / Facebook

Legendary sultry-voiced singer Anastacia is on our shores once again, this time as part of her Evolution album tour. The superstar will be singing her new songs (and we really hope some old favourites) as she rocks the MFCC this Wednesday, the eve of a public holiday. Buy your tickets here and get your tonsils ready: I’m outta love, set me free…

Wednesday, 6th June from 9:30pm: Gringos Summer 2018 – Opening - Uno Village, Crafts Village, Ta' Qali & Wednesday, 6th June from 9:30pm: Mid-Week Summer Jam - Eve of Public Holiday at TwentyTwo - TwentyTwo, Portomaso Tower, St Julian's.

What

Numero Uno / Facebook

If you can't wait till the weekend to get your Uno Village fix, worry not. Hump day also translates to ‘get your groove on’ day. Head to Ta’ Qali in Attard for a night you might not remember. And, should you prefer inside to out, Club TwentyTwo in the Portomaso Tower is having its own mid-week celebration with DJs playing Latin music, RnB and every other genre in between!

Entertainment on a public holiday:

Thursday, 7th June from 1pm – 10pm: Pool Bliss at Infinity By Hugos - Infinity by Hugo's, St Georges Road, St Julian's.

What

Infinity by Hugo's / Facebook

And, the best way to cure your hangover? Lounging by the pool with a few drinks, of course. Infinity by Hugo’s is organising a day by the water – or in a jacuzzi for 12 people if you so prefer. But, book as quickly as you can – there are only two hot tubs available and they’re bound to be very popular! Tickets start from 20 euros and you can even book a VIP sofa which would include towels and a waiter host. So, now, the big question is: mojito or aperol spritz?

Thursday, 7th June from 10am – 11pm: Pageant of the Seas 2018 – Grand Harbour, Valletta.

What

Valletta 2018 / Facebook

Grand Harbour is set to host a veritable smorgasbord of colour, performance and music this public holiday, the Sette Giugno, with Valletta 2018’s Pageant of the Seas. More than 1,000 local and foreign artists are set to swing the sails and entertain both during the day and after the sun goes down. There will be boat races, activities led by legendary Maltese swimmer Toni Bajada, and a show on the history of Malta.

Learn something new every day:

Tuesday, 5th June from 6:30pm – 7:30pm: Artist Talk - Emerald Green (Found ă mentalism II) - Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

What

Found ă mentalism II / Facebook

In conjunction with the series of exhibitions by over 40 international artists called Found ă mentalism II, this talk with Carolin Koss, architect of the three-channel video Emerald Green, will focus on her vision of the dystopian world, where nature has become extinct and the sun has vanished, threatening life on earth. It’s a chilling reminder of the dangers of overconsumption and disregard for the environment and delves into the human psyche to find solutions which may not lie in the exterior world.

Thursday, 7th June from 7:30-9:30pm: Meet Zahra Al-Mahdi, Our Next Artist in Residence - Blitz, Valletta.

What

Blitz / Facebook

Blitz’s new artist in residence, visual artist, writer and filmmaker Zahra Al-Mahdi, will be giving a talk on her art, which includes the graphic novel We, The Borrowed and the a web miniseries titled Bird Watch, currently in development. She will also be talking about her collaboration with Blitz, which will focus on the formation of transsexual and transgender identities, linking them to Malta’s multicultural contexts.

Tuesday, 5th June from 7pm – 10pm: Malta's Muses: Goddess, Madonna, Witch - Tarxien temples, Tarxien.

What

Fragmenta Malta / Facebook

Throughout history, women have been conveyed as witches, as goddesses and as muses. The recent rise in popularity of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale has brought the conversation back into the fold, but what does this mean for the representation of women in Malta? This lecture and performance by renowned folklore professor and artist Kay Turner will centre on the depictions of women as Goddess, Madonna and Witch and will show how these conceptions have influenced rhetoric, and thought processes, on the island for millennia. It’s not often you’re asked to bring a broom to an event, but in this case, raid your store cupboard and join other broom-carrying participants!

Tuesday, 5th June from 6pm – 9pm: Reproductive Rights in Malta - Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

What

With Ireland having said a resounding ‘yes’ to legalising abortion last week, the topic of women’s reproductive rights in Malta was bound to come up. This week, the Malta Humanist Association (MHA) and the Women's Rights Foundation (WRF) will be discussing the situation in Malta and – most importantly – opening the floor up to questions following the presentation. RSVP through the Facebook page or send an email to [email protected] to reserve a seat.

And, finally, something for the little ‘uns:

Thursday, 7th June from 11am – 12:15pm: Flamenco Olé - Toi Toi Moves - Teatru Manoel, Valletta.

What

Have you heard of Isabella, Cinderella’s cousin from Spain? Neither had we! But, this public holiday, take your kids to Teatru Manoel to meet her and learn some flamenco! There’s bound to be some left feet but loads of laughs and smiles all around! This is appropriate for kids aged 3-7 and you can book here.
