The Strange Travels of Senor Tonet and Valletta 2018

It will soon be time for your kids to go back to school so what can you do in this next week before the daily grind kicks in once again? On Wednesday, head down to Triton Square in Valletta and experience the second week of The Strange Travels of Señor Tonet, a festival consisting of interactive mechanical installations designed by Barcelona-based artists Tombs Creatius. Interactive games, focusing on the importance of storytelling, will also be organised so your little ones are sure to also learn a thing or two.

Feast your eyes on standout exhibitions:

In progress, up until Sunday, 29 April from 9am – 9pm: European Eyes on Japan / Japan Today – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

Japan has always fascinated travellers from near and far and, for the next month, you will be able to experience the unique merging of East and West in this exhibition taking place at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta. Led by artistic director Mikiko Kikuta, European Eyes on Japan is a visual arts project that has toured over thirty European Capitals of Culture since 1999 and, recently, the project extended an invitation to Maltese photographer, Alexandra Pace, from Valletta 2018 and another photographer from our twin European Capital of Culture, Leeuwarden-Fryslân. Both photographers have lived and worked in Japan, capturing the country’s lifestyle through a European lens. For tickets click here.

Wednesday, 4 April from 8pm – 10:30pm: Terrae - Victor Agius – Iniala5, Valletta.

Artist Victor Agius will be launching his new exhibition at the Valletta branch of Iniala5 this Wednesday, and it will run all month, until 2nd May.  Agius has produced a body of work which reflects on the subject of human existence by examining the artist’s experience of the environment.

Thursday, 5 April at 7pm: Except for Access Only - Guided Exhibition Tour – Malta Contemporary Arts, Valletta.

Except for Access Only and MCA via Facebook

Belgian artist and architect Tom Van Malderen has launched his first solo exhibition and, this week, is giving people a guided tour and an opportunity to learn about his artistic process. His works – which sit at a juncture between the field of architecture and that of art - present a series of sculptural objects which, due to denominations of scale, materiality and context, evoke architectural models.

Your opportunity to watch a future cult classic:

Wednesday, 4 April 2018, 7:30pm: Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts - – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

Marlina the Murderer and Spazju Kreattiv

A “flamingly feminist” Western, according to Variety’s Asia region critic Maggie Lee, Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts is fast on its way to becoming a film which serious aficionadas will be quoting as the first of its kind. Indonesian director-writer Mouly Surya tells the story of newly widowed Marlina (Marsha Timothy) who faces a gruelling home invasion by a gang leader. As the stakes rise, Marlina must outsmart her sadistic captor and fight the wider patriarchal forces that bind her, while – in the tradition of the Western – embarking on a transformational journey. Sip and swirl:
