Listen to some music:

Monday, 15 October from 8pm: The Funky Jam: Music Playground Open Jam Session - The Funky Monkey, Manoel Island, Gzira; Thursday, 18 October from 8.30pm: Malta Doom Metal Fest 2018, Warm-Up Event - The Garage, Mdina Road, Zebbug

Funk it up this week with music bookending the next few days. Tonight, head to Manoel Island for a jam session with new and aspiring musicians, but if you look at things from the dark side of the moon, the Malta Doom Metal Fest opener on Thursday is bound to lift your spirits. Tickets are 10 euros at the door and you can expect a heavy metal bonanza.

Experience an exhibition:

From today: Nisġa: Storja Kontemporanja – Castille Place, Valletta; From today: Connecting geographies - from idea to project – MICAS, Floriana

What

Spazju Kreattiv

Today, two exhibitions linking art to the possibilities afforded by the urban cityscape open in and around the capital. Nisġa: Storja Kontemporanja is taking place at Castille Place and will feature contemporary digital work reflecting upon and interacting with the elements of the square. A few hundred metres away, Connecting Geographies emphasises this link to the landscape further by using images, archival photographs, videos, maps and design sketches in an artistic architectural installation. Curated by MICAS Art Director, Dr. Ruth Bianco, this will also include a sculptural ribbon by lead architect Claude Borg.

Learn through storytelling:

Tuesday, 16 October from 7pm – 11pm: Her – ĊineXjenza 2018/19 – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta; Thursday, 18 October from 9.30am – 1.30pm: Grimm Tales – Teatru Manoel, Valletta

What

Her & CineXjenza / Spazju Kreattiv

ĊineXjenza is back for another season at Spazju Kreattiv. For the uninitiated, this innovative series of events consists of a screening of a film, followed by a discussion on the scientific issues it raises. This week, Spike Jonze’s Her will be shown, following which there will be a talk by some of Malta’s leading experts in the area. And, on Thursday, head to Teatru Manoel, also in the capital, with your kids for some Grimm fairy tales. Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, The Frog Prince, and The Pied Piper will all come to life – but not necessarily as you know them!

Savour these great pairs:

Tuesday, 16 October at 2pm: Cocktails and Chocolate Pairing Masterclass - Malta Chocolate Factory, Bugibba; Tuesday, 16 October from 7pm: Crusty Jazz Nights - Crust Deli Bakery, St Julian's

What

Crust Bakery / Facebook

As the winter season starts to kick in, events head indoors but they don’t lose the vibrancy they’ve had through the summer season (just wait for the run-up to Christmas!). The weekly Cocktails and Chocolate Pairing Masterclass at the Malta Chocolate Factory will fill you up (so don’t have lunch before you go) but if its some music you’re after get a load of some jazz at Crust in St Julian’s. Its industrial décor, fancy long drinks and open area are just what you need as the season sets in.
