Rediscover Maltese heritage:

Open now until mid-July: The Schranz Family of Artists, A Journey of Rediscovery – Fort St Elmo, Valletta

Heritage Malta

Over 170 works of art ranging from oil paintings, watercolours, pen-and-washes, pencil and pen drawings, books, lithographs and photographs will be on display in this much-awaited exhibition, marking the bicentenary of the Schranz artists’ family’s arrival in Malta in 1818. Swing into action:

Monday, 12 March – Sunday 18 March, 8pm: Raymond “Fight” Beck – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta 

Spazju Kreattiv

In this straight punch tale of what one is ready to give up, the eponymous protagonist would do anything for his family; or what’s left of it anyway. This theatrical production sees Raymond returning to the ring in search of cash and glory. But his real aim? To challenge Dyson “Tosa Inu” Cumbo for the ultimate Maltese Middleweight Championship. While training for the big fight in the confines of the ring, Raymond realises that there are other battles that exist beyond it and its four roped sides, and Raymond must beat the count or prepare to throw in the towel. Discover more about the Gellewza and Girgentina grapes during this wine tasting event celebrating Maltese indigenous varieties which have traditionally been used for in creating aromatic whites, fruity rose`and soft lightly tannic reds. Wednesday, 14 March, 7:15pm - 8:45pm: Concierto La Semana Santa de España - National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta

Heritage Malta

Classical and Spanish music performed by the King George V Band, will be played in the stunning Gran Salon, Auberge de Province this Wednesday on the occasion of the Holy Week exhibition. The music will be accompanied by Spanish traditional dancing by Alegria Dance Company, guitarist Evan Plumpton and singer Eleanor Cassar. The event is open to the public. Click here for more info.

Wednesday 14 March, 7pm – 8:30pm: TEDxUniversityofMaltaSalon - Instant Gratification - Crust, St Julian’s

For a true taste of expert quality, head to Crust this week for the third and last instalment of TEDxUniversityofMaltaSalon this year. This week's talk will focus on the presence and the implications of instant gratification in today’s society. Thursday 15 March, 7:30pm: An Inquisitor’s Cena di Magro – Chigi’s 1637 Lenten supper - Inquisitor’s Palace, Vittoriosa

Have you ever wondered what food was eaten in the past – and what it tasted like? Well, now you can find out, thanks to this historic Lenten supper and a food-and-wine pairing session at the Inquisitor’s Palace in Vittoriosa. You can eat like an inquisitor on the night - Inquisitor Fabio Chigi, later Pope Alexander VII – to be precise, and expect vegetable soups, fish dishes with cod and sardines, and desserts inclusive of oranges, dried fruits, nuts and coffee. This will all be rigorously prepared following a 1637 Lent recipe book. Tickets at €35 are available from all Heritage Malta sites and museums and online. In aid of Brain Awareness Week:

Thursday 15 March, 7pm: ĊineXjenza – Split – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta

Spazju Kreattiv/Split

In recognition of Brain Awareness Week, this session will discuss Dissociative Identity Disorder and other mental health issues through the screening of Split, and a debate on the themes which emerge from this film. The film centres Kevin, who has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr Fletcher. Yet, there remains one still submerged that is set to materialise and dominate all the others. The discussion will be held with an expert in the field from the University of Malta, and snacks and refreshments will be served. The event is open to the public.
