Notte Bianca / Facebook
The yearly appointment with Notte Bianca – Valletta’s arts and culture night – is nigh upon us, so what can we expect? Magna Zmien will be there, sharing the wonderful memories of Malta they’ve collected in the course of their research; museums will keep their doors open well after dark and watch out for those ghost tours! Get there early in the day if you want to beat the crowds trying to get in later on in the evening, though!

And, “bite-sized goodies” are being promised – make sure you line your stomach! Private message here to book – the event is limited to 60 people!

Rima / Spazju Kreattiv
Spazju Kreattiv is preparing a line-up this weekend which gives culture vultures a great amount to chew on. All weekend, starting tomorrow, Rima, an exhibition which focuses on the experience of migrants, will be launched, curated by Virginia Monteforte, with Kristina Borg as exhibition designer and Alexandra Galitzine-Loumpet as cultural advisor. It will lead onto a film festival next weekend (starting on 12th October) which will take the themes introduced and expound upon them. On Saturday night, there is a live screening of the opera, Aida (tickets here) at Spazju’s cinema theatre, if you missed the open air performance at Pjazza Teatru Rjal a couple of weeks back. And, for music aficionados, a collection of recent works by Charles ‘City’ Gatt, known locally as Malta’s “father of jazz”, will open in the capital this weekend.

Sunday, 7 October from 9am to 5pm: Ghar Dalam, Open Day – Ghar Dalam Cave, Birzebbuga
Heritage Malta
One of Malta’s oldest prehistoric sites is set to open – for free - for a full day this Sunday. Formed during the early Ice Age, by water channels seeping into the rock, the cave is 144 metres deep (60 metres of which are open to the public) but what is really astounding are the fossils and animal bones which were found inside. The museum displays the bones of small-sized elephants and hippopotami – and gives visitors insight into the geological and environmental archaeology of the islands.
