What's on 20-22 April: the best events this weekend
We have Friday (and Saturday, and Sunday) on our minds!

Now it’s a beautiful oasis:

Sunday, 22nd April: Malta Clean-Up Earth Day - Various locations around Malta.

Do your bit for the environment this weekend and head to any of the 80 odd locations around Malta and Gozo participating in a clean-up in aid of Earth Day. You may think we’ve got our work cut out for us (and you would be right) but we’ve got to start somewhere, right? Every little bit helps. The event is being organised by Malta Clean Up, who aims to encourage civil action to help safeguard the environment and who believe that small actions by one person can have a huge impact in the long run. Lofty aims for a very lofty cause.

Just a perfect day:

Friday, 20th April, 6pm-8pm: Developing the Art(ist) & Book Launch: WIN, Matthew Schembri – Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

Spazju Kreattiv and WIN

Forming part of the series Art Additives, consisting of talks, workshops, encounters and satellite events developed around the Spazju Kreattiv contemporary visual arts programme, this event will provide the opportunity to learn a little bit about the opportunities available for the professional development of artists in Malta. Artist Matthew Schembri will be in conversation with Irene Biolchini, curator of his current solo show WIN, and will delve into the ins and outs of working within the creative sector.

Friday, 20th April – Sunday, 22nd April: The Malta Robotics Olympiad - MFCC Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre, Ta Qali.

Step into the world of R2D2 and C-3PO at the Malta Robotics Olympiad, the largest technology event on the island. Workshops for all ages, exhibits and demonstrations on the latest developments in the field are being organised, so you’ll be able to learn something – and have some fun while doing so – whatever your interests.

Everybody just have a good time:

Saturday, 21st April, 8pm: Malta International Fireworks Festival 2018 – Xaghra, Gozo.

The warmer weather brings with it feasts, fireworks and festivals. And, while there have already been some events heralding the start of the season, this year’s Malta International Fireworks Festival, taking place in various locations across the islands, is always highly anticipated. This weekend, the event takes place in Xaghra, Gozo, so head there for some explosive action. If you miss it, though, don’t worry too much: next weekend will see the event take place on Friday 27th in Marsaxlokk, with the Grand Finale happening on Monday 30th April, the eve of a public holiday, at the Grand Harbour.

Friday, 20th April – Sunday, 22nd April: Rock the South 7th edition - Zion Reggae Bar, Marsascala.

Another legendary event, Rock the South Malta, the island’s longest running music festival – now going into its 7th year - will take place in the southern town of Marsascala over the next three days. Over 30 bands and artists will play at the venue’s two stages over the three days – and there’s even a silent disco!

Hi hi hi, beautiful Sunday:

Sunday, 22nd April, 6pm – 10pm: Ska Sunday! – Down the Rabbit Hole, Msida & Sunday, 22nd April, 1pm: Spring Sundays – Opening – Medasia Playa, Sliema.

And to end your weekend, there’s a choice of two music events: Medasia in Sliema have once again launched their Spring Sundays, which will take place over the next five weekends. Many of Malta’s most popular local DJs are expected to play and, yes, there will be cocktails! If you prefer something a bit more alternative, Down the Rabbit Hole is organising an evening dedicated to Ska music and will be playing tunes from artists such as The Skatalites, The Beat, Madness, Sublime, Toots and The Maytals, No Doubt and many others.
