Potholes on Maltese roads are a much-maligned topic on the islands, and every winter, just as the rain picks up, the problem rears its ugly head on social media.

But, rather than simply complain about them, one local decided to make light of the situation, making a very creative use of a particular pothole in St Julian’s. 

The hilarious photo, posted on local Facebook group Save St Julians, shows an actual tree, decorated with a festive bauble, planted directly into a pothole in the tarmac. Now that’s not something you see everyday… 

While it’s certainly funny and the ironic statement isn’t lost on us, we do hope the tree makes it out of this safely!
