The Department of Information in Malta treated sports enthusiasts to a delightful trip down memory lane this morning by sharing a throwback photo showcasing the Malta Water Polo National Team's participation in a 1960s competition.

The photograph captures a brilliant moment in Maltese sports history, as the current team recently secured a historic victory in the group stages of a European Championship.

Dating back to the early 1910s, water polo found its roots in Malta, steadily evolving to the point where the nation proudly participated in the Olympic Games of 1928 in Amsterdam and again in Berlin in 1936.

The throwback photo, sourced from the DOI Archives, vividly depicts Malta's spirited involvement in a water polo competition during the 1960s.

As we celebrate this recent significant milestone, it’s great to also look back and see how far the water polo national team has come!

Good luck for more wins, team!
