In a fascinating throwback, a vintage newspaper cutting from the 1950s surfaced on social media courtesy of the it-Temp Madwarna Facebook page. The yellowed Times of Malta article from precisely 73 years ago, offers an interesting glimpse into weather reporting of the era.

What immediately catches the eye is the use of the American system for temperature and rainfall readings—displayed in Fahrenheit and inches, a stark contrast to today's metric norms.

The maximum temperature mirrored the current day's warmth at 22°C (71°F), but the minimum temperature dipped to 14°C, revealing a chillier climate compared to the present by 3°C.

Rainfall data presented intriguing variations. Malta experienced an inch more precipitation than Gozo during the same period and a staggering 4 inches beyond what we've recorded in the current season of 2023-2024.

Adding to the nostalgia, the report reveals that the sea temperature was 2°C cooler back then, creating a vivid picture of a bygone Tuesday in the 1950s.

This historical weather snippet not only provides a numerical snapshot of the past and a sweet nostalgia but also underlines the ever-changing nature of climate patterns.

Are you loving this chillier weather?
