What a shot! Tourist in Gozo captures the moment a lightning bolt hit the sister island
Now that’s what we call a room with a view!

Talk about perfect timing! A tourist visiting Gozo captured the exact moment a bolt of lightning struck near Mġarr, and the jaw-dropping shot has left many in awe.

Alan Gardiner shared the photo in the popular Facebook group ‘Island of GOZO’ last night, writing: ‘Lightning strike over Mgarr Gozo this evening, captured from our hotel room terrace... looks like this one came all the way down... made me jump!’

The striking image shows a powerful bolt dramatically slicing through the cloudy sky, appearing to hit the area near Mġarr Harbour. With the coastline silhouetted against the night and the bolt brilliantly illuminating the sky, the photo looks like something out of a film.

Followers of the group were quick to react, praising both Alan’s timing and the natural drama of the moment. It’s just the latest reminder of how Malta’s weather, especially in the shoulder seasons, can deliver some unforgettable sights for those who happen to be in the right place at the right time.

Did you capture any shots of yesterday’s storm?
