Christmas has come early to Gozo, with the first International Nativity Scene Convention currently taking place on the island.

Named U l-Verb Sar Bniedem, the four-day event is bringing together global artists, enthusiasts and scholars with a shared passion for nativity scenes.

It is being organised by Għimmanu-El Għaqda Presepisti, a Għajnsielem-based association dedicated to the tradition and craftsmanship of the nativity scene.

The convention marks something of a milestone for Gozo’s nativity scene community.

“For decades, Gozitans have actively participated in international conventions held abroad, sharing their passions and craftsmanship. Now it is time to welcome the world to Gozo and offer, in return, the rich experience gained through years of dedication to the art of the Nativity,” the event page rads.

The programme includes exhibitions, educational talks, practical workshops, cultural visits and a special awards ceremony, with activities taking place across various locations in Gozo and Malta. Attendance is free.

Beyond the craft itself, organisers hope the convention will introduce international visitors to the beauty of Malta and Gozo.

U l-Verb Sar Bniedem runs from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th September, with events taking place at various locations.
