Calling all early risers! On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd June, Heritage Malta is organising a guided tour of the temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra in Qrendi to mark the summer solstice.
The summer solstice
At sunrise on the first official day of summer (even though the season is clearly settling in), the sun can be seen rising in particular alignment with these archaeological and historical sites. In prehistoric agricultural societies, observation of the movement of the stars, the moon and the sun could have been related to the changing seasons and to the times of planting and harvesting crops.
Following the intriguing natural phenomenon, participants can enjoy a guided our of the Visitor Centre, including the 4D show and morning refreshments.
Event deets
Tickets are available from all Heritage Malta museums and sites, as well as online, at €25 (€15 for Heritage Malta members). The group will be meeting near the Hagar Qim Visitor Centre at 5.15am sharp, and visitors can opt to choose which temple they prefer to watch the solstice from. Either way, it will be beautiful!
