Well done! Yazmin Zammit Stevens secured first place at the Malta Open Weightlifting Championship
Athletes from various age groups set new records and pushed their limits during this competition.
Last weekend, the Cottonera Sports Complex in Malta witnessed a spectacular showcase of strength, skill, and determination as the Malta Weightlifting Association successfully hosted the annual Malta Open Championships. Athletes from various age groups left spectators in awe of their remarkable performances, setting new records and pushing their limits.
Malta’s very own Olympian shined bright during this competition as Yazmin Zammit Stevens secured the top spot with 233 points and a total lift of 182kg. The Men's Senior's category was equally intense, with Anton Micallef emerging victorious with an impressive 250kg lift and Vlad Baldacchino securing second place.

In the Cadets category, Gabriel Frendo demonstrated remarkable precision and technique, securing the first-place position. His victory was closely followed by Matthias Mifsud and Sheldon Briffa, making it a triumphant display of talent in this young division.
The Under-15 Boys division saw Nathan Mifsud emerge as a true standout. Not only did he claim the top spot with an impressive 201 points, but he also achieved a new national record in the 49kg category with a remarkable 52kg snatch. Luca Said and Nathan Balzan showcased their strength, securing second and third places, respectively.

Aaliyah Gatt dominated the Under-15 Girls category, exhibiting exceptional prowess and securing the top spot with 176 points. Her lifts, totalling 121kg, highlighted her dedication and skill. Kacey Incorvaja and Yazmin Camilleri secured second and third positions, further enhancing the competitive spirit of the event.

In the Under-17 Girls division, Kaya Curmi Inguanez showcased her remarkable strength and technique, securing the first-place position with 186 points. With a total lift of 111kg, she made an indelible mark in the competition.

The Under-17 and Under-20 age groups witnessed a remarkable performance by Rylee Borg, who set new national records and demonstrated his exceptional abilities.

Although Tenisha Thornton was absent from the event due to her preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Malta Open Championship stood as a testament to the dedication and talents of the weightlifters who gathered to celebrate the sport.
