YAS girl! Maltese weightlifter Yazmin Zammit Stevens places third in her category at Tokyo Olympics
Congrats!

Jillian Mallia

Yazmin Zammit Stevens has made history by becoming the first-ever Maltese female weightlifter to compete in the Olympics. She placed third in the 64kg category.

She finished third out of four participants in Category B scoring 84 in snatch and 189 in clean and jerk – if you know your weightlifting, that’s pretty impressive!

Despite her stellar performance, she was beat by Kiana Rose Elliot from Australia and Nicaragua’s Sema Nancy Ludrick Rivas. Yazmin finished above Chaima Rahmouni (Tunisia).

Malta has competed another time in weightlifting but Yazmin made history this morning becoming the first female to compete in this sport. Slaying it, insomma!

Today, Maltese Olympic swimmer Andrew Chetcuti will also compete, taking part in the 100m heats at 12pm (Malta time).

Best of luck to all athletes!
