The local gymnast Sophie St John has made history as the first ever Maltese person to win a bronze medal at the Gymnasiade Under-18 Games. She is joined at the International School Federation (ISF) Games in Bahrain by Lyana Curmi Inguanez, both of whom are members of the GymStars Gymnastics Club, under the expert guidance of their coach, Nataliya Berehova.

After the first day at the competition Sophie St John placed 14th overall thanks to an exceptional performance with a total score of 46.599. She qualified as second on Beam with a score of 12.933 and sixth on Floor with a score of 12.400—earning her a well-deserved spot in the apparatus finals. Sophie then went on to compete for medals on both Beam and Floor, winning the bronze and marking a historic moment for Malta’s gymnastics journey at the ISF.

After securing the bronze, Sophie competed in the Floor Final, where she delivered a strong performance to finish in fifth place, showcasing her skill and resilience on the international stage.

This is not the first time Sophie has shone at international competition. She previously participated in the GAIA Artistic Gymnastics Competition in Portugal performing phenomenally, clinching two gold medals for the ‘On Floor’ and ‘On Beam’ categories, a Silver for the Uneven Bars and first place overall. Her skills also won her the People's Choice Award at Malta’s Sports Awards earlier this year.

Well done Sophie!
