Watch them go! Fifth turtle nest hatches at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo
Too cute!

We woke up to exciting news today as the fifth turtle nest of the season has officially started to hatch at Ramla l-Ħamra in Gozo.

The nest began hatching last night, with 35 tiny hatchlings making their way safely to the sea. Conservationists expect more turtles to emerge over the coming nights, as hatching typically happens in stages.

The event marks another important milestone in Malta’s growing efforts to protect marine life. Each successful nest contributes to the survival of the loggerhead turtle, a protected species that faces numerous threats worldwide.

Visitors to the site are reminded to respect the nesting area to ensure the hatchlings have the best possible chance of survival. This means keeping noise levels low to avoid disturbing the turtles, avoiding the use of bright lights, which can disorient hatchlings trying to reach the sea and following guidance from the volunteers stationed on-site.

These simple steps make a big difference in giving hatchlings the safe start they need.

Good luck, little hatchlings!
