WATCH: Special opening at Għadira Nature Reserve to celebrate young black-winged stilts on 29th June
Young birds, peaceful views & free entry this Sunday at Għadira.

Nature lovers, birdwatchers and early risers – this one’s for you! Għadira Nature Reserve is opening its gates for a special one-day event on Sunday 29th June between 8AM and 11AM, offering a rare opportunity to witness the early steps of young Black-winged Stilts in their natural habitat.

This event is particularly unique because the reserve is normally closed to the public throughout June. The closure helps protect sensitive breeding species, including the Black-winged Stilt and the Little Ringed Plover, while also allowing space for vital maintenance work to take place.

However, with the young stilts now more independent, BirdLife Malta is giving the public a chance to quietly observe these elegant birds as they begin exploring their world. Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy the peaceful, natural surroundings of one of Malta’s most important ecological sites, with free entry.

Whether you’re a seasoned birdwatcher or simply want a tranquil start to your Sunday, this is a perfect opportunity to see wildlife up close. Don’t forget your binoculars, cameras, and a good dose of curiosity – you might just spot other fascinating species along the way.

Ready to celebrate nature?
