WATCH: Maltese-American presidential hopeful talks possible GoT ending with Jimmy Fallon
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that one of the candidates for the US Presidency of 2020 has Maltese blood flowing through his veins. Mayor Pete of South Bend Indiana, whose father was the late Professor Joseph Buttigieg, has been running in the big leagues lately.
Pete recently sat down on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss everything from Mother’s Day celebrations and his 2020 campaign, to heckling Jerry Seinfeld and most importantly, his Game of Thrones predictions.
“You’ve been busy this past week,” starts off Fallon. “You got insulted by the President of the United States,” he continued. “That’s how you know you’ve made it!” jokes Mayor Pete. The current POTUS compared the presidential hopeful to Alfred E. Neuman, the fictious mascot and cover boy of the American humour mag Mad.
When Fallon asked him what he thought about the whole thing he had, well, quite the comeback. “We talk a lot about elevating the dialogue, so I guess that I inspired him to make a literary reference, possibly for the first time,” which obviously raked in the applause and even a musical jingle from the band!
Before wrapping up the conversation, Fallon asks one final and very important question. “Who do you think will be on the throne at the end of Game of Thrones?” And just like any GoT fan, Mayor Pete didn’t hesitate to put his take in the mix. “We’ve been campaigning pretty hard, so no spoilers, I’m an episode behind. Up until this season, I was pretty much on Team Daenerys. I felt like she was really growing in her leadership style. I’m a little concerned now, based on what I’ve seen in the last few episodes that her kind of management approach has kind of got some issues. So, I’m now back to square one.”
He continues by saying, “I’m rooting for Jon Snow – maybe not the brightest, but definitely got a good heart. It’s tough to say.” A great answer from a politician to a Game of Thrones question! “You put a lot of thought into it!” concluded Fallon.
