A horrific sight was found during a St Paul’s Bay dive in recent days that discovered dead eels and three small sharks. Raniero Borg, the local diver and environmental activist shared his lament after discovering them during one of his dives.

“Just one month ago, a large number of stingrays were found dead at Wied iz-Zurrieq. Today I found a large number of Moray eels as well as 3 small sharks at St Paul's Bay. Still with the hook and fishing lines attached. REASON BEING???? Could you kindly explain why this happened? If they were caught and dead, why did they throw them back into the sea?”

In the comments section, Raniero continued his argument, appealing to locals to help ratify the situation. “The whole point of organising clean ups is to decrease the risk of marine death however looks like some still enjoy doing it in Malta other than increasing their risk of intoxication by plastic or entanglement within the large amounts of ghost nests or fishing lines. I cannot understand this anymore. We need to try and save them not further their decline.”
