Venomous jellyfish, Portuguese Man O’ War, spotted on Malta’s southern coast
Yikes!

Sheesh! The highly venomous jellyfish known as the Portuguese Man O’ War has been spotted once again in Maltese waters, this time on the southern coast. This is the 12th time that this jelly creature was spotted since 2009.

Biologist Alan Deidun shared some information about the jellyfish on social media after he announced it was spotted. The species usually comes out to play during spring months and “enters the Mediterranean from the Atlantic through the Straits of Gibraltar each year, being propelled by westerly winds,” he says, thanking one local for reporting this sighting.

What to do if stung by a Portuguese Man O’ War

According to Alan Deidun, immersing the stung area for 20 minutes in warm water (40-45 degress) along with the application of vinegar is the best course for action. So in case you do get stung, remember these two things. Scraping with a credit card might not apply here.
