Tributes pour in after football legend Sammy Nicholl passes away at 88
Sammy was one of Malta’s most impressive footballers.

One of Malta’s most iconic and legendary footballers, Sammy Nicholl has passed away at the age of 88.

During his long successful career, he played for the Żebbuġ Rangers, Sliema Wanderers and the Malta national team.

He played with Sliema Wanderers FC from 1952 to 1964 where he scored a total of 80 goals in 135 matches.

Sammy debuted with the Malta national team in 1957 where he scored a goal during his first game being played against Austria.

The impressive player won the first division league championship five times, the FA trophy three times, the Cassar Cup three times and the Scicluna Cup six times.

He was also the divisions top scorer in both the 1955-56 and 1956-57 seasons.
