An old photograph of Mnajdra has recently resurfaced on social media, sparking interest in one of Malta’s most treasured historic sites. The image, believed to have been taken decades ago, offers a glimpse of the megalithic complex before modern conservation efforts helped protect and preserve it.

Mnajdra, located on Malta’s southern coast overlooking the sea, is considered one of the world’s oldest freestanding stone structures.

Dating back to around 3600 BC, it is even older than the Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge. The site consists of three temples built with remarkable precision, aligning with the movements of the sun during the equinoxes and solstices - evidence of the advanced knowledge held by Malta’s prehistoric inhabitants.

The resurfaced photograph not only highlights the passage of time but also reminds us of the importance of safeguarding such heritage.

Today, Mnajdra stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, drawing visitors fascinated by its ancient mysteries.

Have you ever visited the Mnajdra Temples?
