Seventy years ago, long before the internet and television became household staples, the Department of Information (DOI) played a unique role in keeping Malta informed.

Equipped with a van and a loudspeaker, DOI officials travelled from village to town broadcasting government messages and updates, ensuring no community was left out of the loop.

The service was a lifeline in an era when communication channels were limited, allowing the public to stay connected with national developments and government initiatives.

Fast forward seven decades, and while the tools have changed, the core mission remains unchanged. The Department of Information has embraced the digital age, adapting to new technologies and platforms to meet the demands of a modern audience.

Today, it continues to act as the crucial bridge between government and citizens - a role that began with a loudspeaker and still resonates across Malta.
