Today in photos: 10 jealousy-inducing snapshots from the Maltese Islands
What did you get up to this sunny Tuesday?

Sarah Micallef

Admit it, we all spend a little too much time on social media, and my personal platform of choice has got to be Instagram! What better way to while away a few minutes than by trawling those perfectly-posed shots of people living the dream on holiday, or tucking into the most glorious looking food? And in gloriously sunny Malta, there’s no shortage of that! Here are some of the best, most jealousy-inducing photos taken on the islands today.

1. Romance in the capital

This picture-perfect couple took in the sights in Valletta, Malta’s fantastic European Capital of Culture 2018, and well, we couldn’t have said it better than the caption: “just look at how stunning it is!”

2. Magnificent Mdina

A post shared by Kate (@kate_eyre) on

This stately home and pretty flowering bougainvillea tree in Malta’s old capital, Mdina, is an Instagram sensation – no visit to the silent city is complete without taking a snap in front of it!

3. Love on the sister isle

Some more romance, this time in Gozo – Malta’s little sister. And with the stunning surroundings and deep blue sea around you, what’s not to love?

4. Magic in Marsaxlokk

A post shared by Fred Sellin (@pictures_fs) on

The picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk is another must on your visit – and with the traditional colourful boats (known as luzzus) bobbing in the bay, it makes for the perfect photo op!

5. Can it get prettier than Popeye Village?

A post shared by Melusine (@melully) on

This movie set-cum-theme park is just adorable, and gives visitors a rare glimpse at a real life movie set, which was purposely constructed for the Robin Williams film back in the 1980s.

6. Clash of the Titons

The newly-restored Triton fountain at the entrance to Valletta should definitely make it on your travel agenda – it’s a sight to behold, and despite only being unveiled a couple of months ago, is already an insta-regular.

7. Feeling like Dr Who?

Malta was under British rule right up until the early 1960s, and remnants of British culture remain across the islands. One of our favourite relics though, has got to be the iconic red phone box.

8. Off to the beach

St Julian’s is the nightlife and entertainment capital of the island, but the best thing is, it’s close to the beach too, and with weather like this, why the hell wouldn’t you?

9. At the village square

A post shared by Costanza (@costanzafantoni) on

The village square in front of the parish church is at the heart of every traditional village in Malta, even Marsaxlokk – it’s not all about the pretty boats!

10. Under my umbrella-ella-ella

A post shared by Emi Ly (@deliciousssgirl) on

The Zabbar umbrella installation is still going strong on social media, and well, it’s just so damn pretty, we don’t even mind!

Now be honest… don’t you wish you were here?
