Throwback to tradition! Take a look at this 1973 scene from Wied iż-Żurrieq
Getting boats up that hill can't have been easy!

A nostalgic photo recently shared on the Facebook group ‘Iż-Żurrieq u l-madwar - Zurrieq and its surroundings’ offers a nostalgic look back at life in Wied iż-Żurrieq over 50 years ago.

Taken around 1973, the image shows a group of local fishermen and boatmen carefully carrying their wooden boats down the iconic stone ramp of Wied iż-Żurrieq, just before launching into the inviting blue sea.

Back then, there were no cranes or trailers to make the journey up the ramp simpler – just pure muscle and teamwork had to suffice! The scene is a beautiful reminder of how life once was in this picturesque coastal village, now a popular stop for visitors heading to the Blue Grotto.

Do you remember Wied iż-Żurrieq looking like this?
