Throwback Thursday! Photo from early 1900s shows a completely different Paceville
The Dragonara Palace can be seen in the background.
An old image shared by Facebook user Frank O’Neill shows a forgotten side of Paceville.
For many years, Paceville has been synonymous with nightlife, rowdy crowds, bars, and an unending array of restaurants – but it wasn’t always like this…
The photo, captured towards the early 1900s, shows countless fields and a couple of single-storey dwellings. A world away from 21st century Paceville, right?
The town’s development began throughout the 1910s, when developer Giuseppe Pace built up a couple of houses overlooking the bay.
Nonetheless, the town was still mostly occupied by farmland up until the 1960s.
At that point, things took a turn, as two hotels were built and a number of restaurants, bars, and clubs followed soon after. These were, essentially, the foundations for the Paceville we know of today.
Despite the drastic differences shown in Frank O’Neill’s photo, the iconic Dragonara Palace, nowadays known as the Dragonara Casino, can still be seen in the background!
Do you remember this side of Paceville?
