Throwback alert! 1960s shot shows traffic in Hamrun’s main street
Hamrun’s High Street has always been a busy one!

Emma Galea

Hamrun’s main street, also known as St Joseph High Street, is one of Malta’s busiest roads filled with many shops and different establishments.

However, the photo below proves that this is not something new - the street seems to have been one of Malta’s busiest for many decades!

This bird’s eye view shot was taken some time in the 1960s.

One can observe many vintage Maltese buses and cars passing through the high street, with many cars can be spotted parked along the side of the roads too.

Looking upward, the sides of the street are covered with one traditional Maltese balcony after another, a characteristic which is still noticeable to this day.

Do you notice any more surprising similarities?
