This beautiful collection showcases haunting photos of Valletta from 1982 to 2011
Vanishing Valletta is a photographic collection featuring shots of Malta’s capital taken between 1982 and 2011. The brains behind it belong to photographer and exhibiting artist, David Pisani.

David reveals the story behind his photographic journey. “The exhibition is the culmination of 29 years of documenting Valletta and the Grand Harbour. I started at the age of 17 in 1982, the same year I left school to pursue a reckless career as an artist and photographer – something virtually unheard of at the time!” he jokes.

David goes on to explain that he spent a lot of time in Valletta, mostly in the “less reputable areas of lower Valletta and Strait Street,” as he calls them. “What I photographed is a small part of Valletta’s history when it wasn’t all done up and clean. There were serious social and infrastructural problems and many people avoided the areas, but there was a lingering beauty that I was fascinated by.”

The fantastic documentation of Valletta consists of 192 images selected from thousands of negatives. All the photos are fine art silver gelatin and hand printed.
