This 1981 film schedule for all the cinemas around the islands is giving us major nostalgia
Do you remember this?

Jillian Mallia

Let’s go to the movies! Let’s go see the stars! Back in the day, Malta had a number of cinemas scattered across the islands where you could watch the latest movie on the big screen with the guy or gal you were dating. If you wanted to check what was on, a film schedule would be available with the screening times.

One such film schedule was sharing in a group on Facebook dedicated to local old cinemas. The schedule dates back to December 1981 and films like ‘The Blue Lagoon,’ ‘Prom Night,’ and Any Which Way You Can’ are printed.

The cinemas included, Ambassador Theatre, City Lights Cinema, Gojjell Theatre, Coliseum Theatre, Savoy Upper Theatre, Embassy Theatre, and Gawhra Theatre all in Valletta, and Orpheum Theatre in Gzira and Plaza Theatre in Sliema. Did you manage to head to one of these old cinemas in Malta before they closed down?
