Exploring rural Malta! Have you ever visited the St Catherine chapel in Gudja?
The chapel was restored four years ago!

Emma Galea

One of Malta’s southern towns, Gudja is home to the charming and rural chapel dedicated to St Catherine.

The first reference to the chapel made on record was in 1575, almost 450 years ago but the chapel could well be older than that.

By 1661, the older chapel was replaced and the structure we see in front of us today was built.

Its titular painting shows St Catherine with the palm martyr symbol in her hand together with a sword in her right hand.

The chapel was recently restored in 2021 and opened to the public to explore once again.

Additionally small activities are held in the chapel for the St Catherine feast with is celebrated every year on the 25th November.
