Missed a Maltese theatre hit? This new festival lets you watch it on screen
The screenings will take place between 10th and 12th April at Theatre Next Door.

Ever missed a theatre production and wished you could still experience it? A new local festival is about to make that possible.

‘Ljieli Teatrali’ will bring contemporary Maltese theatre back to audiences – this time through cinematic screenings – between 10th and 12th April at Theatre Next Door in Naxxar.

Unlike film, theatre is often fleeting; once a production’s run ends, it’s rarely seen again. ‘Ljieli Teatrali’ aims to change that by offering audiences the chance to discover or revisit standout Maltese productions that have already graced local stages.

The programme features three acclaimed Maltese plays: the roaring comedy ‘Il-Pożittivi’ by Udjenza, ‘The Great Dictator’ by Nikolai Azzopardi Productions (starring the irreverent Jamie Cardona) and the beautiful piece of puppet theatre ‘Daqsxejn Ta’ Requiem lil Leli’ by Theatre Anon.

By reintroducing these works, the festival helps preserve and extend the life of local theatre, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Which one will you be catching?
