These amazing Maltese athletes are competing at the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi
They’ve been training super hard!

A group of Maltese athletes have flown to Abu Dhabi, where they will be competing at the Special Olympics World Games later this month. The dedicated athletes are trained by Special Olympics Malta in various disciplines such as athletics, bowling, football, gymnastics, triathlon and table tennis.

All the athletes undergo intensive training with a gym instructor, a personal trainer, and a professional dietician to help them get in shape for their respective competitions.

Anna Calleja, the head of the delegation, together with the triathlon team, head coach Leanne and athlete Sasha, arrived recently in Abu Dhabi to prepare for the competition. 

The Special Olympics World Games has various categories, and Malta will be represented in golf by Rebecca, in the triathlon by Sasha, in bocce by Alison and Cedric, and also in gymnastics.

For the first time, our nation will be also competing in unified bowling where Special Olympic athletes are joined by Olympic athletes from the same country to compete in a unified competition. Slay it, guys!

The Special Olympics will begin on Thursday 14th March until 21st March. Keep an eye out for these incredible athletes and show them some love!
