Passengers travelling between Malta and Catania are being warned of possible flight disruptions as ongoing volcanic activity at Mount Etna creates an unpredictable situation at Catania Airport.

KM Malta Airlines has advised passengers that changing volcanic conditions, wind direction and weather could affect flight operations, with circumstances potentially changing at short notice.

The airline said it remains in close contact with Catania Airport and the relevant authorities and will continue to operate its scheduled services whenever conditions allow it to do so safely.

Where disruptions are anticipated in advance, KM Malta Airlines said it will make every effort to inform affected passengers as early as possible. However, sudden changes in conditions or the introduction of operational restrictions could lead to delays or cancellations shortly before a flight’s scheduled departure.

The airline acknowledged the uncertainty that last-minute changes can create for travellers, but emphasised that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority.

KM Malta Airlines stressed that it will not hesitate to cancel a service, even at short notice, if volcanic activity or weather conditions are deemed to pose a risk to safe flight operations.

Its operational teams are continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate closely with Catania Airport and the relevant authorities, with the aim of operating as many scheduled services as possible while ensuring that all flights can be conducted safely.
