The Valletta Waterfront is beautiful during the day, but it's absolutely stunning by night. The colourful doors along the water’s edge are home to a variety of restaurants for all to enjoy, but Thursday evenings call for something a little more interesting, and I recently had the opportunity to experience it first-hand!
Whether you’re looking for a spot of entertainment or hunting down your next meal, this summer's Maltese Nights at Valletta Waterfront make for the ideal almost-end-of-the-week event.
Join in on the family-fun with a leap back in time - with traditional dance, falconry displays and a folksy musical rendition brought to you by a six-piece village band; there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
And while you may be forgiven for thinking that Maltese Nights would be more likely to attract tourists and non-locals, the atmosphere and attention to detail makes it a fun festivity for locals too! On my visit, one of the most enjoyable experiences was the folk dancing, which incorporated some much-loved and recognisable Maltese tunes of the past. Many of the people present couldn't resist joining in for a little dance, while others simply took it all in and appreciated the talent. The village band are a definite highlight of the soirée - their jovial attire and timely music give the evening an added fun-factor.
Another interesting part of the Maltese Nights is the kiddie section of the event, where old Maltese games are demonstrated and shared with the younger generations (and young at heart!) Stirring up nostalgic memories for the older members in the crowd, the games also evoked curiosity in the children playing away - and who could blame them?
Maltese Nights is a Valletta Waterfront event that takes place every Thursday this summer, and with just a few weeks left to experience the magic, don't miss out on the chance! Bundle up the kids and drag granny along too - we guarantee she’ll have a blast, blissfully thinking of her younger days, even if it’s just for one night a week!
