Sort it out! Updated waste collection schedules for these 16 localities in Malta & Gozo

Waste collection has been a popular topic on the Maltese Islands ever since the new organic waste scheme was launched island-wide. On the first day of the new scheme last October, 90 tonnes of organic waste was collected. Quite the record sum! After a successful few months, Government is now revamping its waste schedule to optimise it and make it more efficient. Here’s a list of all the amendments.

1. Attard

Change in collection time for all waste categories from 7am to 7.30am.

2. Dingli

Monday to Friday collections have now been moved to 6.30pm from 6pm, and Saturday collections will now be at 1pm instead of 6pm.

3. Floriana

Friday collection of the recycling bag is now at 11.30am.

4. Kalkara

The recycling bag collection will be moved from 1pm to 7.30am, making all collections in the area at 7.30am.

5. Marsaskala

Glass day collection has been moved from Friday to Thursday.

6. Saint Paul’s Bay

Recycling bag collections on Tuesdays and Fridays will be at 8am instead of 10am. Glass collection will also be increased to twice monthly.

7. Tarxien

All waste will now be collected at 7am as opposed to 8am.

8. Zejtun

All waste will be collected at 8am instead of 7am.

9. Balzan

Black bags will be collected on Mondays as well, increasing collection from twice to three times weekly, and the removal of garden waste collection will be implemented.

10. Nadur, Gozo

Black bags will be collected on Saturdays between July and September, increasing the collection to three times weekly.

11. Fgura

Recycling bags will now also be collected on Fridays, increasing collection to twice a week.

12. Luqa

Tuesday mixed waste collection will be shifted to Thursday with the addition of recycling bag collection on Tuesdays. This means Luqa will have three black bag and two recycling bag collections weekly.

13. Mosta

Glass collection will happen twice a month on the first and third Friday of the month.

14. Pembroke

Recycling bag collections will be removed on Fridays reducing collection to once a week.

15. Ta’ Xbiex

Glass collection will be increased to twice a month on alternate Fridays and all collections will be done at 9am instead of 8am.

16. Sliema

Black bags will be collected on Sundays between July and September, upping the collection days to four times a week.

Localities that are not mentioned will stick to their usual schedule, except for Marsalforn and Xlendi where changes have already been announced.
