Siggiewi hosts a ‘fjakkolata’ every year, although this usually takes place during Holy Week.

Siggiewi’s going to be on fire in all the right ways this coming Sunday.
The town’s ‘Grupp tal-Armar 6 ta’ Dicembru’ and the Siggiewi Local Council have come together to organise a huge fjakkolata.
A fjakkolata entails the lighting of several lanterns (fjakkoli), oftentimes creating a particular pattern, design, or image.
For this fjakkolata, over 1,900 lanterns will be placed around the San Nikola Square and near the church, thus creating an artistic design. Each and every single lantern has been crafted individually – a feat which entailed hundreds of hours of work.
It’s safe to say that this will all pay off, as Siggiewi is now on track to break the national record for 'the largest illumination with an artistic design'. Members from ‘Malta Records’ will be present at the event to certify the record.
Siggiewi hosts a fjakkolata every year, although this usually takes place during Holy Week.
The town will, presumably, take the title away from Birkirkara’s Ghaqda tan-Nar Santa Liena 18 ta’ Awwissu, which broke the record for Malta’s largest fjakkolata last May.
The Birkirkara fjakkolata was made up of a total of 260 lanterns, placed in the shape of a cross.
Siggiewi’s fjakkolata will be held as part of the Festa Gheneb (Grape Festival) festivities.
This event will be taking over the Siggiewi Square on Sunday 18th September following a three-year pandemic induced hiatus.
Festa Gheneb is set to kick off at 6pm and will allow visitors to enjoy the fruits from the annual grape harvest from Siggiewi vineyards.
