Shakespeare meets Vivaldi! Mdina’s Midsummer Concert unites classical melodies and poetic words
This June, the majestic St Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina will come alive with the sound of music and poetry during ‘A Midsummer Dream’ – classical concert that promises to enchant all who attend.
Presented by Udjenza, this one-night-only concert marks the launch of the Mdina Resounds Concert Series, a cultural continuation of the highly successful Valletta Resounds series, now in its third year. As the initiative expands beyond the capital, Mdina’s historic cathedral will serve as the perfect setting for this celebration of summer, creativity, and the arts.

Held on Tuesday 25th June, ‘A Midsummer Dream’ marries the beauty of classical music with the quiet power of the spoken word. Under the musical direction of Jacob Portelli, the Cordia String Quartet will perform a curated programme featuring masterpieces by Mozart, Rachmaninov, Debussy, and Vivaldi. Accompanying them is none other than celebrated Maltese soprano Miriam Cauchi, whose voice has graced international stages.
Accompanied by these melodies, acclaimed Maltese actor Mikhail Basmadjian will deliver stirring recitations of timeless poetry by William Shakespeare, William Blake, and beloved Maltese poet Rużar Briffa.
