The latest addition to Malta's cultural calendar is ‘Stephen Schwartz: Defying Gravity - Live in Concert’, featuring the world-renowned composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Happening on September 29th at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, the composer will showcase some of his most acclaimed pieces. The event promises to be an evening filled with familiar, heartwarming tunes that the whole family can enjoy.

Stephen Schwartz’s magnum opus, ‘Wicked’, has recently gained some particular attention as the film adaptation starring Ariana Grande was announced for release in November this year.

Stephen Schwartz began pursuing the rights for the stage production of ‘Wicked’ in the late 90s, and was finally successful as the composer and lyricist of the musical, which premiered in 2003. ‘Wicked’, featuring the well-known showtunes ‘Defying Gravity’ and ‘Popular’ has had a wild success, currently standing as the second highest-grossing musical theatre production of all time, second to The Lion King.

The composer went on to win several awards for his works, including three Grammy Awards, three Oscars, and a Golden Globe Award, as well as nominations for six Tony Awards, and a Laurence Olivier Award. His other works include the musical ‘Godspell’ (1971) and contributions to the animated films Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) and The Prince of Egypt (1998).

Limited tickets for ‘Stephen Schwartz: Defying Gravity - Live in Concert’ will be available at showshappening.com.
